SIGNS THAT IDENTIFY A ROOM, SPACE, OR AREA
- Must have raised characters and braille text
- Characters must be Sans Serif and all uppercase (Helvetica is most common)
- Character height must be between 5/8” and 2” high
- Font must be ADA compliant – not overly bold, condensed, italic, oblique, script, or decorative
- Sign must include pictogram (symbols that stand for accessibility) with 6” high background field required (wheelchair, ear, phone, or keyboard)
- Non-glare finish with contrasting color
- ADA signs are required for both public access and all employee areas
INFORMATIONAL, DIRECTIONAL, AND OVERHEAD SIGNS
INFORMATIONAL signs provide information about a room, space or area, for example, “Emergency Medical Staff Only”.
DIRECTIONAL signs provide direction to a room, space, or area, for example, “Exit to Waiting Room”.
OVERHEAD signs are ideal for wall, ceiling, and projection type signs, mounted overhead, for example, “Elevators”.
