ADA 1" x 2" Horizontal Sign


  • Must have raised characters and braille text
  • Characters must be Sans Serif and all uppercase (Helvetica is most common)
  • Character height must be between 5/8” and 2” high
  • Font must be ADA compliant – not overly bold, condensed, italic, oblique, script, or decorative
  • Sign must include pictogram (symbols that stand for accessibility) with 6” high background field required (wheelchair, ear, phone, or keyboard)
  • Non-glare finish with contrasting color
  • ADA signs are required for both public access and all employee areas


  • Braille not required
  • Raised characters not required
  • Characters must be Sans or Simple Serif and can be upper and lowercase
  • Informal and Directional signs must have character height of 5/8” minimum; Overhead Signs must have 2” height minimum
  • Pictogram not required
  • Non-glare finish with contrasting color
  • INFORMATIONAL signs provide information about a room, space or area, for example, “Emergency Medical Staff Only”.

    DIRECTIONAL signs provide direction to a room, space, or area, for example, “Exit to Waiting Room”.

    OVERHEAD signs are ideal for wall, ceiling, and projection type signs, mounted overhead, for example, “Elevators”.
